Garifuna Vibes: Virtual Drum & Dance Experience is a one-hour live online class on Google Meet, led by a Garifuna drummer and a dancer from Palmento Grove in Hopkins, Belize.
You learn the rhythms first — the distinct patterns that carry Garifuna music — then the movement that belongs to them. No experience needed; beginners are the point.
You don't need a drum. Any surface will do, and plenty of people follow along on a table. If you'd rather have the real thing, we can ship you a Garifuna drum — ask us when you book.
Along the way you'll hear what the rhythms are for. These are dances about community, endurance and joy, and knowing that changes how they feel to do.
