About this class
Garifuna Language Journey: Words of Our Heritage is a one-hour live online class on Google Meet, where a Garifuna instructor from Palmento Grove in Hopkins, Belize, teaches you the basics of the Garifuna language.
You start where anyone starts: numbers, letters, pronouns, and putting a sentence together. It’s taught through games and conversation rather than drills, so you’re speaking early.
By the end you can hold a simple exchange — and you’ll know why the words are shaped the way they are, which is what makes them stick. Garifuna is the language of our people, and even a few words of it are a real way to connect.
Come with no Garifuna at all, or come to refresh what you know. Both work.
