About this day
The Garifuna Immersion & Bioluminescence day combines our cultural experience on Kalipuna Cultural Heritage Island in Hopkins, Belize, with an evening on the lagoon where the water can glow — about seven hours in all.
You spend the first half with us: drumming, dance, and hudut cooked over the fire hearth.
Once it’s properly dark, you head out by boat or kayak to where the water glows. Tiny organisms light up with every stroke and every hand you put in, and your guide explains what’s happening and why this water supports it.
One honest note: the glow depends on conditions. A bright moon or heavy rain can dim it considerably.
